I submitted 5 new teams this week: Nebraska, UCLA, BYU, Virginia, and Sacramento State. 3 of those were direct requests, and as I’ve mentioned before, feel free to keep sending them in. If all goes well, all should be available within a week on the app store. I’ll update again when they are approved.

After a long wait, lots of new teams are now available with the TeamView treatment. Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, Miss. State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Miami, Oregon, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State fans can now access their football information from their iPhone, locally, without dealing with flaky internet connections. 2009 Schedule, searchable 2008 Roster (to be updated with 2009 information before the season!), Coaching Staff, and News from a popular fan blog of the program are all features of TeamView.
Run out, grab the app, and spread the word. If you have a team you’d like to see added to TeamView, just contact me via this site and I’ll be glad to add it to the list.
Apple finally approved all the updates, so if you have purchased a TeamView app, you should have an update available on your iPhone. This update includes several graphical improvements, some general bug fixes, and alot of improvement to the News (RSS) area. Go out and grab it, and spread the word.
It seems the update for the TeamView: GatorFan (Florida) is now available via the app store. I’m excited about this release (for all teams), so please run out and grab it if you have the Florida app.
I anticipate the other apps should be available soon; it is somewhat strange that Florida was approved yesterday around 5pm, but all the others (uploaded at the same time, and 1 was even uploaded earlier!) have not yet been approved.
Sorry for a lack of updates, but part of the iPhone app development process includes alot of waiting. As mentioned in my previous update, I had quite a few apps submitted for approval to Apple (literally 13 updates and 10+ new apps), but they were rejected due to a technical issue with the news feed. As a developer, this can be frustrating; I appreciate Apple helping me make the best app possible, but the fix for the issue took a very small amount of time, but I had to turn around and resubmit the apps, and wait another week for approval.
I’m still waiting, but optimistic that I’ll get a notification today or tomorrow. If approved, there are updates to all of the existing apps and quite a few new teams that will be available. In addition, I’ve got another batch of teams nearly complete, including a handful of teams requested by you folks.
I’m planning to have a little contest once this batch gets approved, as football season gets nearer. Check back regularly for your chance to win fabulous prizes (ok, probably just some iTunes gift cards, but those are fabulous, right?).
I was hit with a slight delay on all the updates and new apps that had been submitted to Apple. They rejected them because of a small issue with the News area (RSS Feed). I spent last night correcting the issue, and I believe I have it resolved. I resubmitted a couple of the apps last night, and I’ll finish updating the rest tonight and this weekend. It generally takes about a week for them to go up on the app store, so unless Apple rejects them for something else, they should be available next week.
I was contacted and told that I may be infringing on the licenses of the member institutions that the TeamView apps represent. Let me make clear that neither TeamView nor it’s developers are affiliated with the schools that the app represents in any way other than as fans of their respective football programs.
Before releasing these applications, we made a good faith attempt NOT to infringe on any rights; you’ll notice there are no team logos, and the colors are relatively generic. However, in an effort to comply, some changes are coming to the application that I truly hope will be satisfactory to the CSC and the Institutions it represents.
I know that some may be disappointed in some of these changes, and for that I apologize. This is a touchy area, but I respect the rights of the schools to protect their identities. It is not my intention to mislead or misrepresent, and I believe that will be made even more clear with the updates I’ll be pushing to the App Store in the coming days.
With the SEC complete (all remaining teams should be available on the app store later this week), we were able to knock out a few more teams this weekend.
Virginia Tech (by request!), Miami, Oregon, and Texas Tech have all been submitted to Apple for approval, and should be available before Friday. I have another batch baking, and hopefully will be able to get those out the door in the next day or so.
Remember, I’m happy to knock out special requests — so if your college football team is not listed, and you’d like to have them on your iPhone (or iPod Touch), feel free to email me or add a comment here and I’ll make sure you are taken care of.
Of all the feedback I’ve received, 3 things have been requested most: Improved graphics, better news, and updated roster. After some diligent work this weekend, I’ve submitted updates to ALL of the currently available TeamView applications that addresses the 2 of those that are possible. We’ve improved graphics on the front page, added and touched up icons, and generally tweaked colors. In addition, I completely revamped the News page. The news now includes the date of the posting, and for several teams, a better news feed was selected (some feeds didn’t work previously, but those issues were resolved).
Of course, I could not yet update rosters. Contrary to some reviewers impressions, it’s not possible right now because NO team has released a 2009 roster, and we’re not in the business of speculation. As mentioned several times in several places, as soon as 2009 rosters are available, they’ll be patched in for free.
Look for an update to be available sometime this week via the App store, and enjoy!
This afternoon I uploaded the last 3 teams of the SEC for TeamView. Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky should all be available sometime next week. I’ve got some codebase updates (post on that a bit later) to take care of, so ALL of the existing apps will be getting a small update in the next week or so, but I’m hoping to move into another batch of teams very soon. As always, if you have a request, feel free to email me or post a comment here.
